What if god doesn’t speak to you?

One of the requirements of christianity is listening to god

And if you are listening you are supposed to hear something, see something, experience something or have things intervene in your mind or heart.

Christianity has taught me that I need to learn how to listen and hear god speak to me. I am a highly sensitive person and empathic. I tend to be in tune to things in the realm of spirituality. And when I was inside the walls of religion I was trying to listen and to hear god and/or the holy spirit speak to me. In part I was taught to believe that god speaks to you through “his word” which is what christians call the bible or the scripture. But also I was taught that praying and waiting to hear god speak is something very necessary to living and moving forward with any decision in life.

I did believe that god spoke to me. I did believe that I heard from him. And I can name many specific examples that I believed god spoke to me in different ways. ***[Spoke/speak and hear is christian language. These are words that don’t necessarily mean you hear anything audible.] I haven’t ever heard an audible voice.
