surrender through shifts and bitter cold

all that was holy
sacred rituals learned
the paths paved for me
did i ever need them
or have i done what i was told

was it time
as the clocks strike midnight
the moon and stars aligned
an astrological turning
revolving through my momentary reality

the point of no return
set shifts in motion
this is not the predestination
of which the elders spoke

these rust coated wheels
eke out a creak
as they begin to grind
wouldn’t it feel better
not to move

when our train
has been assigned to the graveyard
the rumbling is disheartening
terrifying
where you go from here
who knows
blindfold
isn’t it better not to look

i lost my religion
set my vows aside
promises no longer relevant
bonds long faded illusions…
