I have to call a foul on them for saying this. It seems a sly way to criticize and pour out disapproval.
My experience is that the church forbids women from getting away from destructive men (marriage). We are pushed back into abuse. Submission is employed. I believe the number (divorce) would be higher if the person’s (woman’s) health and well-being were valued rather than the institution of marriage.
To me the length of time of a marriage is not relevant. What I believe is most important is the relational health, wholeness and genuineness of the people in the relationship.
