I think there are categories of people: 1) those that can see and accept these things that you are saying or that don't know information like this, but will not go along with the toxic religious teaching 2) those that are on the inside of religious institutions; they are open minded and critical thinking and these negative teachings intuitively don't feel right to them and 3) those who are weak and feeble at their core; They need rules and codes to feel superior and get gratification from control, demeaning and devaluing those they love to hate. As we see in the world, this easily and quickly goes into acting out evil, the more power they have with no consequence for their destructive vileness. (Regardless of the name of the group, it is still hate and it is destructive.)

I believe the first two groups of people need to unite in actively supporting and loving, especially those that religion condemns and hates. But it takes time for many of us to deconstruct all of that and get out of the fog. Group three: we need to see who they are, defend against their destructiveness; continue speaking, teaching, informing and when possible, refuse to associate with them and not support them.
