Such an amazing story that by writing and visiting Lewis, Hooper managed such shifts of circumstances and events.

Lewis' kidney/urination issues: my first thought was insulin irregularity/diabetes?

WWI and Paddy Moore: He must have been Janie's son? Did Paddy return from the war? You say that Lewis is 18 when he and Janie Moore get together. Did he get with her after the war? If so, would he not have been older than 18 then?

Some of this reminds me of another piece that you did (Mark Twain?), where they found freedom in California. I wonder if, especially Hooper found freedom in the world of Lewis as opposed to his own.
