Will the dark night carry us to light?

was i born to be crucified
hated and despised

did i come here to die a death
and be brought back
resurrected without my consent

would even one cry
would there be loss
one measure of sadness to be found
that i perish on desert ground

would anyone know my name
my existence quickly fade
never risen to prominence
unknown
only the trickle of tales of a whoring lunatic
a renegade

how cruel to have to traverse this blistering heat
trekking through briars and weeds
tearing my skin
too malnourished to bleed

what’s left to cry for
is there a depth i’ve reached beyond tears
is it despair, apathy
or suspension within the abyss

swallowed by infinite darkness
hope a mirage
of believing i would find a tinge of light
how long would you wait
for the ending of night
when holding on for a reprieve
