Isn't this how it is with ancient scriptures that became the Bible? We read into it and see in it what we want to see. Likewise, we will not see what is not "acceptable" to our grid of beliefs. What people have predetermined to believe or not believe forms their "seeing". This clouded view is why people will fight so hard to defend their view and why it derails them when someone opposes their notions.
