It seems you are shifting the burden of this issue onto the innocent. This is discounting the power of Christian religious programming, shame, rejection and pressure. Christian religion is very often an abusive relationship that causes great harm. There are many accounts of suicide because of religious teaching and hatred.
I would never diminish the power and need for freedom in sexuality. We are sexual beings and must be free to be fully who we are, with the exception of one's choices not harming others. It does not have to be important to you, but it's too far to assume how important it may be to others. This is the beauty of diversity and acceptance of each other's preferences.
