Jim was feeling pressure and guilt. Did he want a child or was it mostly or entirely her? Did she want a child because socially it is often believed to make a woman of higher value? ... or relationally because of programming that this bonds you to the man and would make "everything" better between them (with the underlying feelings of not being desired)? ...and personally she would feel more whole and fit into her expected roles? Yes, as you said: "favored among women". And you could say that her building of a narrative about Jim and their relationship is part of that same current.
She did make him into a messiah, didn't she? She made him into the image of Christ. She became God. Interesting isn't it that in her skill in story telling, is there anything written of her daughter? Any redeeming value or beauty of her daughter's story or how she loves her?
