My grandmother revered her. Christian women who are hurting, seek and need validation in someone else's "godly processing of pain". Joni seemed to become a prophetess. I can see now why my grandmother wanted me to read her books. It is really something to deconstruct this bit of my religious programming.
Also, it's interesting to see Joni's progression as she is used by Evangelicals and building her new identity. It seems parallel to how I am seeing it in the political realm. As I observe the political Right, after being outside of it, I can see the building of stories, identities and each compromise until they have built and become an entire false narrative and alternate identity.
