"Scared": yes, I can see that the religion creates so much fear and self loathing. Jim seems one case study. Another word in your article that stands out to me is deranged. It was used of the patients, but I know how the fear, judgment, sin, God's rejection/disapproval/condemnation, legalism, shame, self loathing and the entire cauldron of all of this programming, severely warps people. It's a terrible space to exist in. It is a diseased state of mind and dysfunction.
