I met Becky when we began a training program for our new jobs. We were in our twenties and fresh out of college.
She and I became good friends. I came to this job along with one friend from my school and she with two from hers. The five of us spent a lot of time together.
Within a few months she had her eye on Roger. She saw him in church, back in her small hometown. She was laser focused on him. She decided that she wanted him.
She pursued him and they began dating. But for him, commitment had a catch. He told her that he would pay for a membership for her to join the Jenny Craig diet and weight loss program.
When she told us this, we were livid. We were concerned for her. We also feared what Roger’s mindset meant, if he needed to change her body so that she could be acceptable to him. She knew our concerns about him. She told us that he said as justification, “I know what I am attracted to.”
