slight miscalculation ~ you thought she was too delicate

you thought you controlled her
had a firm hold
thought the reins were yours
but it’s her mouth you pulled

you saw her a mile away
she was sweet
innocent
insecure
needed love desperately

now she’s with child
no holds barred
she’s locked in
didn’t she buy in
to the idea
both of you believed in

who does she have
where could she go
running isn’t familiar
being mistreated is

time with you
gutted her
hollowed out
guts scooped out
like gourds
her remains
a shell

but encapsulated deep within
a tiny spark
the only thing to keep her warm
is it enough
