Thank you for sharing this Tosin. This is a powerful article. My cousin's family are JW. I have wanted to understand why they don't want anything to do with me and my children. Your writing helps me understand. I have recently stepped outside of the walls of religion. I was raised in Christianity. For many reasons, but divorce was the shift for me. Leaders always pushed me back into abuse. When I was struggling, alone and in agony, I am told that I am sinning (because I got away from abuse). I am so proud of your curiosity, wisdom, tenacity, courage and strength!! It is incredibly strong to feel the fear and doubt, stand alone and do the right thing for you. Stepping outside of religion for me feels like leaving an abusive relationship. It is amazing how free, different and happy I feel to have gotten out. It is a whole new incredible world.
