The Awkward Elevator Ride With My Husband’s Divorce Attorney

It was 2018, at the courthouse downtown and we had just finished a scheduled court date. My attorney, Lori walked with me to the elevators. She had to stay at the courthouse for another case. I was always on alert and cautious of where my ex was lurking. I could not risk being alone and in close proximity to him.

Lori is a 40 something, blonde and if the situation permitted, could turn on her vivacious, extrovert persona. Allen, my ex’s attorney is in his seventies. He does not need to work and I really don’t think he did. It seemed obvious if you observed his behavior and posturing. Besides showing up when necessary, I believe his assistant did all of the work. I am certain that I always knew more about what was going on than he did.

Lori had previously worked for Allen’s law firm before joining her current one. They are pals that have known each other for years.

Lori and I arrived at the bank of elevators and somehow Allen was there as well. If my ex had been near, I would have had to avoid the area, but he was not.

Two attorneys banter
