The thought that came to mind is: As Jesus was recruiting disciples, one insisted that he must go and bury his father. And Jesus said, let the dead attend to the dead. This seems less than honor, at least how I was made to understand it.
The honoring parents concept has long been used as threat, control and manipulation- by my mother.
