This is disturbing to me. It seems a lot of bullying, demeaning, devaluing, blaming... I feel there are signs of narcissistic abuse. Add that to his self-aggrandizing mentality, need for outside stimulus of "fame", neglect, abandonment, the cold, harshness of his patriarchal and misogynistic attitudes toward her make a serious case.

What he was doing to her was not love or compassion, it was coercive control. It would have only gotten worse for her.

Love is giving her freedom, no matter the outcome of her choice.
