What Informs What We Pursue In The Quest For Earning Income?

I can identify the feelings of shame. The voices of a lifetime still chase me. And I presently have intrusive and critical opinion given without my consent or request. How does one stop another from spouting their opinion. In the moment, I don’t. But I don’t know that you can avoid the kind of people that insist on telling you what they think.

In the present, people are trying to crawl up in my business as to job and work. Throughout my life the messages and pressure have been negative and destructive.

Job status in our culture is the number one qualifier of a person’s identity, especially for men. But women are also scrutinized for what they do or don’t do. I know how it feels to be devalued by those that don’t see your work and investment in society as worthwhile.

I heard someone say: “When people ask what you do, they are deciding how much respect to give you.” We all know that certain jobs are considered respectable and others are not. Society treats people accordingly.

When you tell someone what you do, whether that is school or work, you are offering that up to them to either approve or disapprove, criticize or affirm your value as a human. I have seen people be very intense and demanding in the…
